Gay Beaches and Gay Travel for your Gay Weddings

  • Posted on September 13, 2010 at 2:40 pm

Gay Beach Vacations for the East Coast Gay Traveler.  Perfect Gay Vacation Destinations for your Gay Weddings.  Perfect locations as well.

When people who have just come out of the closet think homosexual vacations and homosexual beaches on the east coast, most of them only think about Miami and South Beach. The thing is that there are actually a lot more options and much better ones if the goal of your vacation is to escape busy cities and city life and just relax. Furthermore, although I absolutely love and adore South Beach, it isn’t lgbt anymore, but we’ll go over that shortly. Here are my reviews of the top gay beach towns in the US and on the East Coast. We’ll start from the top and P Town to south and Key West. If you need to book a hotel in one of these homosexual beach cities as well, then there is only one option that I ever use, Bookable.com.

Provincetown Massachusetts.

Provincetown Massachusetts or better known as Ptown was made famous by a couple of movies from the 70′s and 80′s as the predominant homosexual beach and lgbt vacation destination in the USA. Just like the other homosexual beaches around the country, Ptown is only good between Memorial Day and Labor Day, other than that Provincetown is dead as a doorknob. With a bunch of bed and breakfasts, cocktails and lounges, Provincetown enables you to take relaxing bike rides along the ocean and on trails as well as have fun and enjoy the night with a fun club or lounge atmosphere. Provincetown is a classic gay getaway and one that attracts all of the hot guys from New England and NY (when they get tired of Fire Island which we will review next).

Fire Island, New York.

Fire Island is basically just that, an island of all the flaming queens of NYC and even some of the grrls from DC, Philly and New England. When the rich people of NYC go up to the Hamptons and others hit the Jersey Shore, the gays go to Fire Island for their own lgbt beach getaway from NYC. Fire Island is known as a lgbt getaway around the world and if you want to keep a city feel in the clubs but a relaxing beach atmosphere with hot in shape men, Fire Island New York is the ideal homosexual getaway for you. I personally got tired of and am over Fire Island, but then again, if I’m going to NY I only want NYC which is why I probably hate Fire Island, I just want to head straight to Manhattan and go shopping and to broadway. Fire Island is a great lgbt beach and if you want to enjoy NY but need a break from the city, Fire Island is perfect for you.

Rehoboth Beach Delaware.

Rehoboth Beach Delaware is a personal favorite beach getaway for me. Since I live in DC, Rehoboth Beach is only a couple of hours away and when I get tired of going out to the clubs, dealing with work and all of the people in DC, I head to Rehoboth Beach. Not only does Rehoboth Beach boast a 95% gay population, but they also have a couple of showtunes bars with piano players, they have lounges, amazing junk food like Candy Kitchen and Dollies as well as Thrashers Fries, Grottos Pizza and more. Rehoboth Beach doesn’t have a huge club but they do have a massive circuit party Called Sundance each year over Labor Day weekend each year. Rehoboth Beach is a great small beach town and you can find Rehoboth Beach Hotel Reviews here.

South Beach Miami Florida.

South Beach is no longer a lgbt beach. Unfortunately the straight people took it over and not only did the prices go up, but the amount of clubs and fun went down big time. You still have clubs like Score or Twist and you still have shopping and site seeing, but the actual look and feel and overall homosexual life or gay beaches being actual homosexual beaches in South Beach no longer exist. South Beach is no longer a homosexual beach, it has a large homosexual population and is extremely gay friendly but it is not a gay beach anymore. All of the gays moved to Ft. Lauderdale Florida so if you want the new south beach, try Ft, Lauderdale, that is quickly becoming the new South Beach.

Key West Florida.

Key West Florida is the southernmost destination in the US or Florida I think. Every year on New years they drop a drag queen in a high heel instead of a disco ball like in NY and all year round the gays flock to Key West to party. On season is in the winter since that is when the temperature is about perfect but even during the summer when the heat is insane, Key West keeps people coming in for their huge parties, fabulous beach houses and bed and breakfasts and fun Florida foods. When you go to Key West for your homosexual beach vacation, you have to try the food and go to the beach, but most importantly you have to have Key Lime Pie. Not only is this where Key Lime Pie came from, but it is completely worth breaking your diet over. I love Key West and the key lime pie makes it even better. You have a million options of where to stay and what to do in Key West and it is the last truly lgbt beach in Florida, besides Ft. Lauderdale which is becoming the new South Beach. I highly recommend and love Key West and if you love the trailer park drag queens and an overall amazing time with something for everyone, Key West is the perfect gay beach destination for you.

Homosexual Beaches are the perfect way to get away from any major city. You have a ton of options and places to go to and even more if you want beach accessible cities like the lesbian city New Hope in Pennsylvania. The main party weekends for lgbt beaches in the US and especially on the east coast are Memorial Day Weekend, 4th of July Weekend and Labor Day Weekend. If you want to go to a homosexual beach for any of these weekends, book early because they sell out fast.

Things to remember when planning Gay Weddings

  • Posted on July 25, 2010 at 11:22 pm

Although gay weddings and straight weddings are essentially the exact same thing, there are a few things you have to account for and remember when planning gay weddings that you don’t normally have to think about when planning straight weddings.   The thing is that since there are people opposed to gay marriage still and not everyone has seen two men or two women kiss before, it could be shocking and there could be issues during the wedding.  I wanted to create this post for people who are planning a gay wedding and wanted to help them to think of things that unfortunately do happen so you can try to address them in case they do and have a solution ready.

Protesters.

The unfortunate thing about gay weddings is that there may be people protesting if the anti gay groups find out you are having a gay wedding in their area.  Although most of the protesters are not violent and they just like to yell and shout a lot, make sure that the people who are attending your wedding just ignore them so they don’t accidentally escalate a potential bad situation.   By ignoring them they lose focus and don’t usually cross over to your actual wedding, if someone provokes them then sometimes they do cross the line.  The other thing to remember is to have music.

No one wants anti gay chanting in the background of their wedding vows.  Make sure that if there are protesters at your wedding you have the chapel sound proofed or test it before hand to see if you can hear the people outside.  The other thing is to have some sort of speaker system with classical music or Madonna or whatever music you like playing for when you leave the chapel so when you are your partner are walking out and the wedding video shows you getting into your limo there is only music and happiness and no negative protester chants.

The Guests Making Comments and Inviting Other Guests.

Although it is great to be able to get legally married, your gay wedding is not the place to talk about politics.  Nothing is more annoying than someone coming up, especially a stranger, and going on for 10 minutes about how it is finally time they passed gay marriage.  Gay people are happy and love the fact that many straight people support us, but at our weddings we want to be happy and think good happy thoughts.  You wouldn’t go on and on about those topics at a straight wedding so don’t go on and on about them to the brides or grooms at a gay wedding.  You also need to make sure that if your guests are bringing guests that the guests they bring are not homophobic or end up being homophobic after they have had a few drinks.   I don’t think I need to go into that one much more lol.

Inappropriate conversations.

Regardless if the guests have been to a gay wedding, know a million gay people or this is their first time ever seeing a gay couple, it is rude to act like a fag hag or hang all over the couple.  It is their day and a day to showcase them.  Don’t hog the spotlight or try to take it and don’t hang all over either of them.  Let them be with each other and talk to them after the wedding.  It is also rude to talk about straight marriage and how gay people are so much like straight people and how gay weddings are just like straight weddings.  Although you may not think it is rude, it actually is.

Everything else is pretty much standard and on par.  If you are planning a wedding, watch for protesters out front and if you see people in the crowd that could end up being an issue, alert the authorities or if they are attending the wedding, go talk to them real quick and let them know what the proper protocol is and what is inappropriate.   If you notice guests clinging to the couple or separating them, especially the fag hags, pull them aside and politely remind them of whose day it is.  The person may get offended but the couple will thank you.  The best thing to do is to trust your instincts.  If the couple seems annoyed then fix the problem and if you see an issue that can be avoided, solve it.  Other than that you should be fine.

If you have other things to remember when planning gay weddings and things that could possibly go wrong or ruin the happy couples big day, please feel free to leave a comment below.  If you found this post useful, please feel free to click on the green tweet or retweet button at the top to share it with all your friends on twitter.  Thank you for visiting GayWeddings.co.

Gay Weddings – Why Are Gay Weddings Important

  • Posted on July 23, 2010 at 9:48 pm

What better way to start the webs most dedicated blog to Gay Weddings than with a post about what Gay Weddings are, why gay weddings are important to gay people and why gay weddings are so controversial.   I think the best way to start this post about gay weddings is to address why gay weddings are important to gay people.

Gay weddings aren’t about the word wedding or the word marriage.  Sure to the hardcore gay activist they will not settle on terms like Union or Partnership because they feel like they are a second class citizen but the reality of the issue being about a word in my opinion is next to meaningless.  The issues surrounding gay weddings are about having equal rights like straight couples do when they get married.  The equal rights are what are most important to most gay people and if people could get over the term marriage and union and take the equal rights, I think that eventually down the road terms like marriage vs. civil union will not longer matter as much as gay weddings will be so normal for all of society at that point that saying your going to a gay wedding or watching your friends get married won’t even cause a flinch in someone’s eye.

The equal rights is the biggest issue because when you are officially married and the government recognizes that you are married, you now get things that couples, friends and other non family members get.  This includes things like tax breaks, social security, the rights to the things you have earned as a couple if one of you would pass on but most importantly rights like hospital visitation rights.

One of the scariest things that can happen to a couple is finding out that the person you love has ended up in the hospital.  When you are married legally you are considered family and you can visit with the person that you love.  If you are not married or your partnership is not recognized by the government or the state then you are technically not allowed to go back to see the person you love.  Hospitals for the most part only let family members and legally married spouses back to see their partners when they are in the hospital.  Can you imagine how horrible it must be to have to sit in a waiting room while the person you love may be dying or in pain.  To not be able to say goodbye to them or to be by their side when they need you.  Can you imaging being on your deathbed and not being able to be with the one you love.  This is a reality for many gay couples because in their states they cannot get married legally so if something happens to their partner they are not only not allowed to be with them in the hospital, but they also have to spend their time waiting for family to show up and tell them how the person they love is doing.  That is one of the main issues regarding gay marriage and gay weddings and why it is important to gay people that gay people are able to get married.  It is about equal rights and not about god or about causing trouble.  Imagine if you were the person in the hospital or if you got a call that your partner and the person you love was in the hospital, it may make you have a different opinion on the matter if you have had to go through it.

Now that you have heard one of the reasons that gay marriage and having a gay wedding is important to gay people, lets talk about why some people oppose gay marriage and protest outside gay weddings.

The main reason and main issue have with gay people getting married is the fact that they feel God hates gays or that the bible says that marriage is between a man and a woman.  The thing is that that makes almost no sense at all.  If God hated gays then why would he have created gay people?  If God creates everyone in his own image, then gay people are also God’s image and should be respected just as much as anyone else.  The bible was written well after Jesus passed away and nothing can actually really be proven.  Although I do respect religion and people who have faith, the truth of the matter is that here in the USA there is a separation of Church and State.   The separation of Church and State is one of the core founding principles of America.  Using God as an excuse to prevent or not allow gay marriage or throwing the bible into the mix is quite frankly unconstitutional.  Not only does it go against one of the founding principles that America was founded on but it also goes against the rights to freedom of religion.

If Christianity says gay marriage is wrong but a different religion says gay marriage is right, then who is to say which religion should control what the law says.  It makes no sense and when people bring up god into the argument they forget that America was founded on the freedom to believe and practice whatever religion they want to.  The God and religion argument is unamerican and if someone brings it up they should be taken out of the argument.  This is a US social issue and not one for religion since religion is not part of the legal process in the USA.

Now that you have heard why gay weddings are important and what the main opposition is to gay weddings and gay marriage,  lets go over what exactly a gay wedding is.

Gay weddings are celebrations of love and the union of two people.   Just like a straight wedding you have a happy couple who is in love.  You have a wedding party, you have a cake, you have a caterer and you have the person who will legally marry you.  The only real difference between a gay wedding and a straight wedding is that instead of a bride and groom you have two brides or two grooms.  You still have two people in love, you still have friends and family around and you still have a celebration.  The only real difference is that you have two brides or two grooms and the cake topper may have two brides or two grooms as well, unless they go with doves or letters or something else.

I hope this post helps to better explain what gay weddings are and why they are important to gay people.  Please feel free to leave a comment below and I will be happy to respond to as many of them as I can.
